NMEA Version

Post by Rares »

Which version of NMEA can be handled by GAS software? If record version 3, or superior, I think I can use GPS RTK systems.

Reads data from the serial port and parses NMEA 0183 data (standard GPS protocol). Presents position as latitude, longitude.

Hi everyone!
We had some talk about the GPS problems so you should check here:
http://gpr-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=11
When speaking of GPS RTK systems I know that some people do it, but a while ago we were trying to get one (as cheap as posible :D ) and went for the Magellan RTK 3. Beware buyer! That one in specific doesn't have NMEA output (although internaly it writes in that format) at all - it's a sale decision to reserve it for more expensive models (Z500 ...). So the lesson here is try before you buy as a must (usually it is not that much of a problem). It will also show you which additional cables you have to buy (if it's a wire connection output) - "unusual" but true they will sell COM, USB, Bluetooth boxes as a separate product.
Cheers!
